SNOW HEROES

Our Snow Heroes are a group of young people from Heywood Youth Link who went out into the community of Heywood on Monday 11th January 2010 to clear paths of snow and then grit for the elderly and venerable residents of our town.

Pictures show our Snow Heroes helping out at Unsworth Court, Roe Acre Court and Peel Lane Bungalows.

PGC Demolition (a local business) donated £100 worth of salt and grit for our young people to use.

The residents were all really pleased with the Snow Heroes and we were able to give our phone number to the residents, so that they can be called upon in the future to anyone who needs their help shifting snow and gritting paths.

We all loved doing the work. It was physically hard but very rewarding. Having spoken to some of the residents we were helping, we decided to establish ‘Shopping Heroes’ as some of the residents had not been out since before Christmas and had no shopping in.

Heywood Youth Link @ Old Hucky’s want to be a light house to our community and relieve any stress that is caused by the weather and financial climate we are all experiencing. We don’t have money, but we do have the time and energy to try to meet people’s needs.

Youth Link is not only about supporting young people. It’s about community. Our young people play a vital role in the local community and with guidance and support they will be good citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

Youth Link empowers people to do whatever they can to make a difference in Heywood.
